Saddle Fit Issues

Because I am an authorized dealer for The Port Lewis Workshop. I can offer the following service and sales to you featuring...

The Port Lewis Impression Pad
Patent Pending

Impressionpad-JPEG.jpeg

The Impression Pad is made from clear flexible vinyl and contains a moldable putty which is affectionately called Equi-Dough.  I am able to get an exact impression of how your saddle fits your horse, with you. The Impression Pad is designed to aid me in properly fitting any saddle to your horse.

The Impression Pad is placed on the horses' back.

I will then have you position your saddle, do the girth up and have you go for a ride. The time required to create an impression varies with the temperature of the Equi-Dough and the weight of the rider as well as how poorly the saddle fits. Generally, a 30 minute ride is all that is required. It is important that you walk, trot and canter in both directions. Dismount and remove your saddle

I now have an exact impression of the pressure your saddle exerts upon your horse while you are riding. Compare this with the bars on the underside of your saddle

Ideally the Equi-Dough will be evenly displaced under the length of the two saddle panels (bars). Areas where the Equi-Dough has been completely displaced are the extreme pressure points.

I then begin to build your custom pad

impression_with_foam2.jpeg

With my master kit of foam pads and the impression pad I am able to build a custom pad that is taylor made for you, your saddle and your horse.  Once these foam pads are set I have the client ride again with the pre-set foam inserts on the impression pad for one more ride to insure that all previous pressure areas have been addressed.

Once I have the correct foam placement a custom pad is ordered through Port Lewis and sent directly to you.  You have an aray of colors and pad styles to choose from.

What does a custom pad mean to you and your horse?  It means you can continue to use that favorite saddle that fits you perfect.  The cost of the pad compared to searching and buying saddle after saddle is a fraction of all that and the hassles on top of that.

A custom pad is $279.00 plus shipping.  Although the price seems high, these saddle pads are show quality.  They are made with Duponts Cordura shell with 100% Cotton underside, which makes this pad washable and durable.  Because the foam pads are inserted your pad can be refitted for another horse or refitted for the same horse should your horse gain or lose weight.  In other words your not stuck with a pad that won't change with you and your horse's needs.

I charge $25.00 to do a custom saddle pad fitting.  Please understand that I do not do Saddle Fitting to have a saddle made, what I do is to help create a pad to allow you to keep the saddle you already have.

During the summer months testing is done in the evenings or early morning as the dough gets too warm which results in an inaccurate testing.

If you decide to purchase a custom pad after a test, I will apply that fee toward your custom pad.
